Symbolic Items And Places

John Teller's Bike

JT's bike has a significance one may not expect. When one thinks of Jesus they may also think of the cross, the object Jesus sacrificed himself on. Throughout christianity, the cross is represented...well...everywhere. Since JT represents a God-like figure, it makes sense that JT's bike, the object which he, and in the end his son, dies upon. The bike is quite literally a vehicle to their sacrifice.

The bike itself is also proudly displayed in the clubhouse just as the cross is proudly displayed in churches everywhere. This fact gives JT's bike even more significance since it too is displayed just outside the boardroom, also known as the "Chapel" (Hester,  2011).

John Teller's Book

In season One, Jax finds a book written by his father called "The Life and Death of Sam Crow. How the Sons of Anarchy Lost Their Way.". Upon reading it he discovers that it is a story of the club's beginnings, as well as a guide on how to get it back to what it was originally intended to be. The sons were to represent freedom, but that freedom turned criminal as the lust for wealth and power overwhelmed the sons. JT had intended to get the club back on track, away from it's criminal ways and back onto a 'riteous' path.

JT's written word, resembles that of the holy bible in it's function for Jax. As a result it also functions as a moral code to follow and point in the right direction for his club. Just as Jesus preached the values and morals of his father's word, so does Jax.

The Boardroom

The boardroom is one of the most easily identifiable christian references. None of the members of the club ever refer to their gathering place as the boardroom, they all refer to it as the "Chapel" and a club meeting is called "Church" (toddhester, 2011).

The image carved in the center of the table is Mr. Mayhem, the angel of death himself. No matter what happens to the clubhouse (it is moved after the clubhouse gets bombed) the chapel remains. After the bombing of the clubhouse, the garage the Son's own and work out of as mechanics, the chapel was moved to an ice cream shop they purchsed while the original clubhouse was being cleaned up.

The chapel is very important to SAMCRO.
